As early as the 3rd Centry AD their chiefs were the Lords of the district Munter-devlin who once controlled the Tyrone shores of Northern Ireland’s Lough Neagh. It is even said that the Portadown Rebellion of 1641 was led by the family O’Devlin due to their unwillingness to conform to the King’s liking.
